Case Study of Anna John from HACA Marketing School, Now Placed as Content Writer

Not Every English Graduate Becomes a Lecturer. Anna Became a Content Writer Instead.

Anna completed her BA in Communicative English, Economics, and Politics from St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore, followed by an MA in English Language and Literature from Sacred Heart College, Thevara.

Before joining HACA, Anna had a different career path in mind. She always wanted to become a college lecturer and saw herself continuing in academics. But after completing her masters, she wanted time to explore different paths before deciding what came next.  During that period, she explored different options and came across digital marketing.

As she researched more, she realised that content writing and digital marketing were closely connected. Since writing had always been something she enjoyed, this felt like an opportunity to apply that interest in a different way.

That is when she joined HACA.

What She Expected and What Actually Happened

“I realised content writing is not just about writing.”

When Anna John joined HACA, she expected to learn content writing and digital marketing. But as the sessions and projects progressed, she started seeing content differently.

She had heard about content writing before, but she did not fully understand how content worked inside businesses or how it connected to marketing. She expected to improve her writing skills, but what she experienced was broader than that.

She started understanding that content is not simply about writing articles or captions. It is also about understanding who you are speaking to, what the message should achieve, and how ideas can be communicated in ways people connect with.

Anna says that this changed how she looked at writing itself.

“I thought content writing was mainly about writing. Later I understood that there is a lot more thinking involved before you start writing.”

Learning Through Practice at HACA

During her time at HACA, Anna worked on practical activities and projects alongside learning concepts.

According to Anna, one thing that helped was getting opportunities to think through content instead of simply completing assignments.

She shares that these experiences helped her understand questions like:

  • How to create a hook?

  • How do you make someone stop and read?

  • What makes content feel engaging?

  • Why should content match a brand’s personality?

  • How do you communicate with a purpose instead of just filling space?

Those small exercises slowly built confidence.

Moving From Student to Intern

After completing her digital marketing course, Anna joined Edexe Learning as an intern and began working on real content projects.

During her internship, she got opportunities to work across different content formats and completed:

• 65 - 70 poster contents
• 9 carousel contents
• 6 reel scripts

Working across multiple formats helped her understand that content changes depending on audience, platform, and purpose.  Through this experience, she strengthened skills in:

• Content Writing
• Copywriting
• Social Media Management

Starting professional work was a new experience, but it did not feel unfamiliar.

Because she had already worked on practical tasks during her learning period, she was able to adjust to the workflow and understand expectations more comfortably.

During the conversation, Jomy Jos, Founder & CEO of Edexe Learning, shared that most newcomers usually take time to settle into a workplace. In Anna’s case, he noticed that she adapted quickly and approached content with more intention than simply completing tasks.

She often approached tasks by asking:

“What is the intention behind this content?”
“How does this support the brand?”
“What are we trying to communicate?”

That approach helped her settle into the role more quickly, and her internship eventually turned into a placement as a Content Writer.

Where Anna Is Today

Today, Anna works as a Content Writer at Edexe Learning. Her work includes writing content, creating social media copy, and working on different content formats.

Looking back, Anna says digital marketing gave her writing a direction she did not expect.

Instead of writing only for academic spaces, she now writes to inform, connect, and communicate with people. She did not leave writing behind; she simply found a new place for it.

Her journey shows that learning becomes more useful when students get opportunities to apply concepts, experiment, and understand how work actually happens.

Sometimes confidence does not begin after placement. Sometimes it begins when students get opportunities to practise, experiment, and apply what they learn.
